Our mission

Empowering people through education and opportunity

Founded in memory of Dr Hafiz Abdul Majid — a lifelong educator and Hafiz of the Qur'an — our ethos is to empower, not just give: creating real opportunities through education and skills. This sits alongside our wider humanitarian work — orphan care, refugees, food and shelter, clean water and emergency relief — wherever the need is greatest.

Why we exist

Born from a family's wish to give in a lasting, accountable way — turning Zakat, Sadaqah and generosity into real relief for people facing the hardest moments of their lives.

How we'll work

Carefully, transparently and where need is greatest — supporting trusted projects and individuals, in the UK and overseas, with dignity at the centre of everything.

Who we help

People in genuine need — regardless of faith, background, nationality or ethnicity. Support is given on the basis of need alone.

A legacy of education and service

Built on a lifetime of learning

The Abdul Majid Foundation was established in memory of Dr Hafiz Abdul Majid — an educator, academic and Hafiz of the Qur'an who dedicated his life to knowledge, learning and service. His belief that education empowers individuals and transforms communities continues to inspire the Foundation's mission today.

It reflects a timeless value at the heart of Islamic giving: the most dignified help is not a handout, but the means to earn — restoring a person's independence rather than deepening their dependence on others.

What we aim to support

Planned areas of focus

As the Foundation is established, these are the causes we intend to support. Each represents a commitment we are building towards — not yet active operations.

Education & schooling

Quality education for children in places where good schooling is scarce — the teachers, materials and support that open doors and change futures.

Planned area of support

Skills, training & livelihoods

Practical skills and training — at home in the UK and abroad — so people without the right education can earn, build independence and support their families.

Planned area of support

Islamic education & Hifz

Support for Qur'anic and Islamic learning, including Hifz of the Qur'an — nurturing knowledge of faith alongside worldly education.

Planned area of support

Orphan support

Care, sponsorship and a stable future for children who have lost their parents — food, shelter, schooling and dignity.

Planned area of support

Refugees & war-affected families

Practical relief for families displaced by conflict — shelter, essentials and a hand to help them rebuild.

Planned area of support

UK food banks & homelessness

Supporting food banks and homelessness initiatives here at home, for neighbours facing hardship in our own communities.

Planned area of support

Disaster & emergency relief

Rapid response when earthquakes, floods and famine strike — reaching people in the first, hardest hours and beyond.

Planned area of support

Water & clean water projects

Water wells and clean-water projects that bring safe, reliable water to communities who go without.

Planned area of support

Hardship grants

Grants to registered charities, non-profits and individuals in genuine hardship, where a little help changes everything.

Community-Led Projects

The best ideas often come from the community

The Abdul Majid Foundation believes some of the best ideas come directly from local communities and individuals who understand the challenges around them. Anyone can propose a project — and our trustees review every proposal carefully.

How it works

  1. 1You submit a project proposal — a cause or idea you care about.
  2. 2Our trustees review every proposal and approve or decline it.
  3. 3Approved proposals become official Foundation projects.
  4. 4All funds are held and governed by the Foundation, under charity rules.
  5. 5Proposers may help deliver the project — but never control the funds.

Governed by the Foundation

This isn't crowdfunding. Every approved project is a Foundation project, with funds managed under our governance and charity requirements — and progress reported transparently. It's how we combine community ideas with proper accountability.

Our promise

100% of public donations go to those in need.

The Foundation intends for 100% of public donations to be applied to charitable projects. Administrative and operational costs will, wherever possible, be funded separately through Gift Aid, trustee/family contributions, dedicated admin donations, sponsorship or other non-project funding.

100% to projects

Every pound the public gives is intended to reach charitable projects in full.

Costs funded separately

Running costs are met through Gift Aid, family contributions, sponsorship and dedicated admin donations.

Family-backed

The founding family underwrites the Foundation so giving goes where it is needed most.

Faith-inspired, open to all

Rooted in Islamic values. Given freely to all people.

Our work is inspired by the Islamic values of compassion, generosity and service — Zakat, Sadaqah and the duty to care for the orphan, the traveller and the neighbour in need. Yet our help reaches beyond any one community. Support is provided based on need, regardless of faith, background, nationality or ethnicity.

“Whoever saves one life, it is as if they had saved all of mankind.”
The Holy Qur'an, 5:32
