Every charity has a reason it exists. Ours is a person: Dr Hafiz Abdul Majid — a scientist, an international lecturer in Chemistry, a Hafiz of the Qur'an, and above all a teacher. He spent his life helping others learn, and he believed, deeply, that education is one of the most powerful ways to change a life.
The Abdul Majid Foundation was established by his children in his memory, as a continuing charity on his behalf. It is, in the truest sense, a way of carrying his life's work forward — and of sharing its benefit with people who need it most.
Why education, and why now
It is easy to give money. It is harder, and far more lasting, to give someone the means to never need it again. A child who learns to read, a young person who gains a trade, a parent who develops a skill that earns a living — these are not one-off acts of relief. They are changes that ripple outward for years, through families and whole communities.
That is the conviction at the heart of this Foundation. We are education-led: our first instinct is to ask not simply 'what can we give?' but 'what can we build?'
Relief and empowerment, together
None of this means turning away from urgent need. Orphan care, support for refugees, food and shelter, clean water and emergency relief remain a vital part of our work, offered to anyone in hardship regardless of faith or background. But even here, our aim is the same wherever it is possible: to help people move from crisis towards stability, and from stability towards independence.
Inspired by Islamic values of compassion, dignity and self-sufficiency — and open to all — the Foundation exists to turn generosity into something that lasts. That is the legacy Dr Hafiz Abdul Majid left us. We intend to honour it.
